Serve the City

Serving the City

At Refuge, we believe God has called his people to cultivate the world around us. Whether at work, at school, at home, or in our communities, we believe God desires for us to have left everywhere we go better than we found it. As a result, we actively strive to serve our city. This idea is at the heart of our vision for Southeast Austin. Through serving the city and communities around us, we put what we believe into practice. It shows others the love of God, yes, but also reminds us of that love. It’s in the place of serving that love of Jesus becomes tangible to use and others. So, we encourage everyone that calls Refuge home to serve our city. Below are some ways we believe you can do that.

Serve The City Through Refuge

Refuge has an incredible vision of serving Southeast Austin. Our Family Resource Center is our 20-year vision to see God work at transforming Southeast Austin. As a result, we are regularly implementing and starting new programs that help serve our community. This type of service goes beyond the scope of serving on Sunday mornings and puts us in the game of serving those that may not know Jesus, but those that he still loves. If you interested in serving our community in this way, you can contact Pastor Josh at josh@refugeaustin.com.

Serve the City Through Partnerships

In addition to our own programs, Refuge Partners with organizations from across the community to serve Southeast Austin. These strategic partnerships empower us to serve the community beyond the scope of what our church alone could usually do. Whether monthly mentorship programs, Clean My Park days, or helping host community-wide holiday events, we value our community partnerships. To learn more about our partnerships, feel free to visit our events page to check for serving opportunities through our partners.

Serve the City through Serving Individually

While we value the ability to serve our city as a community, we know that might now always be possible. Maybe you schedule conflicts or are out of town. That’s ok! We don’t think service should be limited to what we do at church. If you have some time and are able to serve at an organization you feel is doing great work, we encourage you to go for it. We believe Jesus is at work in you and through you wherever you go, even if it’s just you. Tell us about it and we may take steps to forming a partnership with the organization.

A Starting Place to Serving

God told the people of Israel to seek the shalom (wholeness) of the city around them, because when it thrives, we thrive. At Refuge, we desire to bring South Austin as close to whole as we can on this side of eternity. Whether through our own programs, partnerships, or even members of our family finding their own ways to serve, we desire to be people that serve the city and bring wholeness where we can. We believe this is foundational to shaping our city with love of Jesus.
