WE EXIST TO SEE OUR CITY SHAPED AND TRANSFORMED BY THE LOVE OF JESUS.
About
Refuge Community Church is a new church serving South and Southeast Austin. We see the beauty of South Austin, what it is and what it can be, knowing that God has uniquely formed this community to show a part of who He is. From the rolling hills down East Oltorf to the bustling sidewalks of South Congress, from the rising steeples of St. Edwards University to the taco joints lining South Pleasant Valley, we are convinced that God has a plan for South Austin that's more beautiful than any of us can imagine! And it's for that reason that we are joining in the work that God is doing in South Austin by planting Refuge Community Church. We are a Christ-centered, multi-cultural, community-focused church that desires to see our city shaped by the love of Jesus. Interest in learning more? See our values, mission, and vision below.
Our Values
Christ & Gospel Centrality
Above all else, we value the central role of Christ and his message in the life of the Christian. From his role in creation to the return of all things to him, everything we do comes from and is pointed toward Jesus. Through Jesus, we gain and maintain a new life in God.
(Rom. 11:36, Col. 1:16, Heb. 4:14-16)
Diversity
We value diversity (ethnic, cultural, generational), knowing that diversity displays the unifying work of Jesus in the life of the believer. Diversity also empowers us to better understand and engage culture and people across the city and around the world.
(Gal. 3:28, 1 Cor. 9:20-22, Rev. 21:24)
Family
We value family, knowing that humanity was created to be in family relationships, first with God, then with each other. Through the gospel, we are called and empowered to pursue a renewed family community, marked by love, with God and with those around us.
(Eph. 4:2-6, Jn. 13:34-35)
Multiplication
We value multiplication, knowing that God has called humanity to partner with him in advancing his Kingdom on earth. The primary way we do this is by making disciples that will take the Gospel where we can’t through missions and church planting, even after we’re gone.
(Matt. 28:18-19, Acts 1:18)
Hospitality
We value hospitality, knowing that God has called us to invite and invest in others with the love and grace of Christ. As a result, we desire to create a place, in our Sunday gatherings and our everyday lives, where we offer to others the things that refresh us and invite strangers to become family.
(Rom. 12:13-20, Matt. 25:42-46)
Cultivation
We value cultivation, knowing that a core function of humanity is to cultivate. Through the gospel, Jesus restores our ability to cultivate to God’s glory, resulting in the healthy cultivation of ourselves, our families, and our communities.
(Gen. 2:4-5, Eph. 6:6, Col. 3:17)
Our mission
Refuge Church exists to make disciples that shape our communities with the love of Jesus.
Our vision
We desire to see Austin shaped and transformed by the love of Jesus. Everything we do is aimed at seeing lives changed and the city of Austin flourishing through Jesus. We desire to be people that engage and invest in people and communities, leading to churches planted, missionaries sent, and lives changed locally and around the world.
